About the FREEDM Indoor/Outdoor Cables
FREEDM Loose Tube Cables combine excellent mechanical and environmental performance with the benefit of a type OFNR listing. FREEDM Loose Tube Cable is familiar to craftsmen with a background in outside plant loose tube cables and is ideal for centralized cabling applications. Since the cable core is waterblocked, the cable is suitable for outside plant applications. FREEDM® Ribbon Cable is ideal for higher fiber counts (72 to 216 fibers). This cable also offers an OFNR listing and brings the labor savings of mass fusion splicing to the indoor plant.

Corning Cable Systems recommends the use of FREEDM® Indoor/Outdoor Cables when the cable will be installed outdoors and placed into buildings in backbone applications without a transition patch panel. These cables meet the mechanical and environmental requirements of ICEA S-83-696 and offer the benefit of specific NEC® Type listings (e.g., OFNR, etc). They are waterblocked and the cable jackets are UV stabilized for outside plant applications. Many FREEDM Cables are available with interlocking armor. Generally, Corning Cable Systems does not recommend using tight-buffered cable outdoors, except for FREEDM® One Tight-Buffered Cable. Corning Cable Systems recommends FREEDM Loose Tube Cable or MIC® Tight-Buffered Cable for building backbone applications.
