The Universal Serial Bus standard was introduced to provide a high speed, reliable, less expensive and simple method for  interconnecting computers and peripherals such as printers, monitors, keyboards, modems, disk drives, CDs, digital  cameras,  etc...

USB has become a standard hardware interface, thanks to its easy-to-use and Plug-and-Play capability. With computing speeds for PCs and PC peripherals increasing, it is expected that USB 2.0, with a 480Mbps data throughput, will become the standard interface.

Like the original USB spec, USB 2.0 lets you easily connect PCs and notebooks to peripherals, but this iteration transfers data at 480 Mbps, about 40 times as fast as its predecessor.
These cables may be used with your existing 1.1 USB devices as well as the new USB 2.0 standard products.

The new hi-speed data transfer rate is 480 Mb/s. There is, however, wide variation in edge rates. With typical line loads, full speed devices usually fall in the 12-25 ns range, and low-speed devices typically range 110-225 ns.
